Enrique de la Madrid, a prominent leader in both the public and private sectors, is a keen observer of global trends and their influence on Mexico’s development.
He pays particular attention to economic, political, and social phenomena, as well as innovation and technology, with a current emphasis on artificial intelligence; foreign trade; agribusiness; and the challenges and opportunities of climate change. He also emphasizes the need for entrepreneurship and modern leadership in business and government to address our challenges and seize opportunities to build “The Best Possible Mexico (and World).”
A graduate with honors in Law from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and with a Master’s degree in Public Administration from Harvard University, his career includes important roles such as Secretary of Tourism, during which Mexico achieved sixth place worldwide in tourism, and director at Bancomext and Financiera Rural. He has also contributed his expertise to the private sector at HSBC and ConMéxico, and by founding and directing the Center for the Future of Cities at Tecnológico de Monterrey.
In the political arena, he served as a Federal Deputy and, more recently, as a candidate representing the National Civic Front for President of the Republic. He later joined the campaign team of former presidential candidate Xóchitl Gálvez as general coordinator of the Thematic Discussion Groups tasked with developing the opposition alliance’s government plan for the 2024-2030 term.
As an opinion leader, he hosts and directs the television program “Now / Future; Mexico and the World,” which airs weekly on ADN40. He also hosts the podcast “In Black and White,” is an opinion columnist for El Universal, and appears weekly as a guest on various television and radio programs, including a weekly appearance with Leonardo Curzio on Grupo Fórmula. His social media accounts are widely followed and discussed.
Currently, he works as an economic and political analyst, a business consultant for companies in various sectors, and an advisor to leading companies in their respective markets.
As a citizen, I remain interested in engaging in dialogue with other citizens about the direction the country is taking to close the gaps of social polarization, and in pointing out or criticizing, with facts and arguments, the current vision of the country.
